Councilmen Schmidt, Shoaff, and Smith: Thank you for your oversight on this project. No matter what the outcome, I believe you will get the facts so that all citizens can know the details of this boondoggle. John B. Kalb

Let's see if the administration stonewalls the council members' requests as much as they the regular citizens'...

Gentlemen,

Are you willing to eat crow if the acquisitions were made properly? Who am I kidding? I'm sure you guys will find something improper no matter what anyone else says.

Jeff Pruitt said...

What exactly would I have to eat crow about?

Did you even bother to read my statement? How does it have anything to do w/ the acquisitions being made properly?

If you want to continue to build strawmen just so you can blow them down then be my guest but don't expect anyone else to take you seriously...

Whatever Pruitt. Your post clearly connotes that the administration has something to hide.

That is a ridiculous conclusion.

Just for the record, I'll let everyone know that what I actually meant. I don't think this administration takes public oversight seriously and I wonder how different their response will be now that it's comming from the council. I thought my original statement was quite clear...

Pruitt,

I'm glad you cleared the air. So what exactly has the administration not provided to you? When and how were these requests made?

I requested several pieces of communication related to Harrison Square. The city did not provide these documents within the timeframe required by state law. In fact, it wasn't until I went to one of the Mayor's "Report to People" sessions and requested it in a public forum that I was given the information.

I know Mike Sylvester has also requested several items (numerous times) that they are required to provide but have not - I'll let Mike describe them himself if he so chooses.

I understand that these requests are probably a pain in the ass for the administration but they are required to provide the info via state law. I think the next mayor should take this a little more seriously and make sure there is a point of contact for public information requests...

Pruitt,

When and how was your request for several pieces of information made? I won't ask you about Sylvester's request.

Barranda,

I've made several blog posts detailing the items I've requested. You can read about them here and here.

I think I should also clarify that I'm not seeking to stop the project - I voiced my opinion and lost; such is politics. I only have two ongoing issues/complaints with regard to Harrison Square

1. The Redevelopment Commission should admit that they violated state law and those responsible should be held accountable. Also procedures should be put into place to keep this from happening again.

2. The mayoral nominees should realize that as we progress into the information age the citizenry will actually want information. Therefore, they should designate a point of contact for information requests and this person should take the responsibility seriously.

As far as Harrison Square is concerned, I plan on attending a few games and I sincerely hope the project is a success. There's no sense in wishing for failure on a project of this magnitude just so one could say "I told you so"...
