Back In The Council Spotlight

Council on the Square

"Harrison Square will again be front and center before the City Council this week as council members debate key financing for the contentious downtown development project."

"Council members may well discuss plans for the Courtyard by Marriott hotel that will be an anchor for the project. They will also receive formal notification that the Fort Wayne Convention and Tourism Authority, which oversees Grand Wayne Center, agreed to contribute $250,000 a year for 10 years to Harrison Square. The City Council annually approves the Grand Wayne budget, which will include the disbursement beginning in 2009 for the 2010 budget."

"While the council opponents are right to ask pointed questions about details to city officials and require them to explain and reinforce specifics of the project, the council members will ill-serve their constituents by simply reiterating their general objections or seeking significant changes in the project’s scope."

How about the Common Council just turning down all requests for this illegally pursued boondoggle - or at least table all until the courts decide if the process has been legal to this point? John B. Kalb
