Businesses snap up ballpark luxury spots

"Demand for luxury suites at the proposed downtown ballpark was so great the owners of the Fort Wayne Wizards had to ask businesses to buy fewer than they wanted.

Mayor Graham Richard and Hardball Capital, the Wizards’ owner, announced Wednesday that 32 companies will share the 16 luxury suites offered at the new ballpark, which is part of the $120 million Harrison Square project."

"There was so much interest in the suites that not only did they have to increase the number of suites from 12 to 16, Freier said he asked companies to buy a suite for less than a full season so more companies could be a part of the project.

This included reducing a company’s lease from a full season to a half-season.

Freier also said one of the suites was not leased so it can be sold on a game-by-game basis."

"IF THE INTEREST in luxury suites is any indication, the baseball park in Harrison Square will be a success.

Mayor Graham Richard and Wizards owner Jason Freier announced Wednesday that 32 companies have bought the use of 15 skyboxes for the stadium. Many that wanted season-long access agreed to a partial season to help other companies standing in line to buy space. The interest spurred the Wizards to increase the number of suites from 12 to 16; one will be reserved on a daily basis."

"The announcement was made in the spacious south hall of Grand Wayne Center, where attendees could see the site of the ballpark and Harrison Square. Just down the hall, the center was booming for a statewide judges’ conference, with more than 1,000 Hoosier jurists and court personnel attending.

The conference center draws tens of thousands of people to the city every year, fills a space two blocks long that had been an empty hole and will fit in well with Harrison Square."
