Freier To Be On WOWO

Tune in to WOWO at 8:05AM this morning to hear Jason Freier speak on the selling out of the suites at Harrison Square.

Use this link to tune in over the Internet.

Recap:

Within a month of first marketing the suites, there were more than enough commitments to fill the original 12 planned suites. With the addition of more suites by Hardball Capital, there is still a waiting list.

The 16 suites are said to be shared by 32 companies. Memorial Stadium has 8 suites in comparison.

The City is waiting on final bond approval before breaking ground, which is thought to be somewhere from 30 to 60 days from now.

Hardball has received a couple hundred responses for interest in the condos and retail at Harrison Square and also general feedback.

It was mentioned that Minor League Baseball has set yet another attendance record, increasing attendance for the fourth consecutive year in a row.

Freier says Hardball plans to have over 1000 tickets per game available at a $5 price point, which is cheaper than any seat currently at Memorial Stadium.

So just to clarify, the initial construction date was by Sept 1. Now we're hearing more like Nov 1? That would be right as winter is starting, typically a dead period for most construction companies. I'm wondering if this thing is going to be ready for the start of the '09 season.

Joe - This was just the first of the "When will it be done" lies from the crew that's pushing this boondoggle - I think my "beer money' is safe at least until 2010 and maybe longer. Hey, they don't have any idea of what they are doing and it has been thuis way all along. Just wait until the real crap starts to hit the fan!

There is a reason for the delay. It was covered on this blog. For a reminder:

From the August 28 Journal-Gazette article, "Project OK'd with caveat"

"Secondary development plans are technically detailed plans to show the development meets engineering requirements. They typically are not required to go before the plan commission. City staff said any major changes to the plan would likely come to the plan commission anyway.

Requiring the extra oversight will add about a month to process paperwork for the project, said Greg Leatherman, deputy director of development. He said the city would be able to work with the requirement, but it will be more difficult to begin construction this year."

Scott S. Can you see if our Redevelopment Department will release the soil sample results on the retail sites? I see they sure got the info on asbestos out - but then it was a good report. Just asking -is the report from Geotechnical & Materials Soil Boring Group not so good and that's why we haven't been advised of their report? John B. Kalb

I do remember reading that article Scott. However, I hope that baseball is being played downtown at the beginning of '09. Obviously I want the construcion to be done right and not rushed through. But if plans for the demolition of Memorial Stadium keep moving forward, is it possible that the Wizards could be playing road games for the first couple months of the '09 season? I know its a long way off, but construction plans are already at least 2 months behind from where they wanted to start.
