"Mayor Graham Richard invited the community to tour new homes southeast of downtown in an effort to increase interest in living and investing in the urban core."

"The project includes the 36-block area bordered by Hanna Street, Creighton Avenue, South Anthony Boulevard and Pontiac Street. Richard said the area has the ability for up to 400 new homes and 100 rehabilitated homes near downtown."

"The city partnered with local developers, who are building six model homes in the area. Those homes will be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. the weekends of Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28.

The six model homes are on the 2400 block of John Street."

"These homes are the first of the 350 that are planned for the neighborhood, which is a 36-block area bordered by Hanna Street, Creighton Avenue, South Anthony Boulevard and Pontiac Street. The neighborhood is expected to be a new “front-porch community” in the heart of the city, according to the mayor."

"Along with the 350 homes expected to be built, 75 more will be restored. There will be new street lighting, alley upgrades, curb and sidewalk improvements, stormwater upgrades, streetscape enhancements and measures taken to slow traffic. According to www.census.gov, there were 90,915 housing units in Fort Wayne in 2000, with a homeownership rate of 61.6 percent that same year. The median value of an owner-occupied unit was $74,600."
