"Fort Wayne city officials gave the initial go-ahead Wednesday to begin a $300,000 project to improve Broadway’s streetscape.

The Board of Public Works approved a resolution to repair and beautify the downtown thoroughfare from Main Street to the railroad overpass by the General Electric building.

Russ Garriott, planner with the city’s division of community development, said the scheduled improvements include curb and sidewalk repairs, resetting bricks and replacing older street trees."

"Garriott said the Broadway improvements came originally at the request of the West Central Neighborhood Association and will help improve a major road downtown.

“The improvements on Broadway will complement what we’re trying to do downtown, both with Harrison Square and other streetscape improvements,” he said."
