After completing plans to remove debris that has blocked the St. Mary's River under the Clinton Street bridge, Indiana Department of Transportation officials announced Monday that cleanup efforts will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday on rivers in Allen, Adams, Wells and Whitley counties.

Yardberry Landscape anticipates the waste removal project will last seven days, according to a written statement from INDOT.

On the Clinton Street bridge portion, a barge will float alongside on the St. Marys River. Crews will remove the waste and place it on the barge, then remove the barge from the river at a site near the bridge.

Because most of the removal work is being done from the barge, traffic restrictions will be minimal, INDOT said.

I just want to say that it is about time! That trash was under the bridge for far too long with nothing being done! What a beautiful place to put river front properties, with such a beautiful view of a freezer in the river. Aside from being less than aesthetically pleasing, what is the damage that has been done to the water and the soil around the area? There are several other areas in the rivers of Fort Wayne that are in horrible condition with trash as well. When is the city going to buck up and do somthing about this?

I think FtW is still in a "build a wall- out of site, out of mind" relationship with the rivers.
