Sam Talarico Jr. and Tim Pape on WOWO's Pat White Show

City Councilmen Sam Talarico Jr. and Tim Pape were on WOWO's Pat White Show today talking about the Harrison Square downtown development. The two councilmen spoke of the financing for the project, talked about the merits of the project as a whole, and answered questions and concerns of callers.

You can listen to the broadcast by using the player below. The edited segment runs 24 minutes 45 seconds.

Thanks for posting this. I wasn't able to listen to this today and was thrilled you guys put it on here.

Also, congrats on being mentioned by Councilman Talarico.

As for the audio itself, I don't know where to start. First of all, the people have to begin thinking outside the box. The attendance of 700 at the playoff game obviously occurred for a reason....it wasn't because people don't go the games. It was during school (i believe during the week).....NOT THE SUMMER. Other things occur that time of year. It is the summer time when people go outside to enjoy the atmosphere of the ballpark. As Talarico said, most people don't go because the Wizards are in first or second place. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Wizards be at least AA, but that is irrelevant in this topic.

Also, the comment of the Wizards being "A Glorified Little League team" shows even more lack of understanding by the type of people against this project. If that caller doesn't know it, the Wizards have had NUMEROUS players make it to the Majors AND SUCCEED greatly. I believe he also thought that our population was 300,000. People must be informed if they are going to try to fight things.

Tim Pape and Sam Talarico did wonderful jobs, and as for Pat White, he wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, I feel he sometimes strays away from the big picture and at times even uses hypothetical (the prices of the condominiums...who knows what the prices will be? he is just assuming). Thanks again.

Going into last season, 49 Wizards had made the Major Leagues; with Torii Hunter, Matt Lawton, Josh Barfield, Jake Peavy, Michael Cuddyer, AJ Perzienski and LaTroy Hawkins being among the most prolific. I know there were a few that were added to the list last year. Given the tiny fraction of minor leagues that make it to the MLB level, I's say that qualifies the Wizards as much more than a "glorified little league" team.

Thanks for posting this link. I was out of town and couldn't hear the original (even on the webcast, which is how I listen).

I try to be patient with critics of the development (and downtown development in general), but the first two callers made me want to scream! Of course there are some valid concerns, but not these.

The first caller complained that "no matter what they say, it all comes from my dollar". I wonder if he complained as loudly when the City used his dollar to build that road and bury that plumbing electrical service out to his house and his local Walmart somewhere out in Sprawlville. Tax money is spent everywhere, folks; get that into your heads. And as for his assertion that nobody favors this, well, that's so ludicrous as to be laughable.

I don't even want to get started on the second caller.

Anyway, good job with your blog - which is desperately needed.
