More marketing w/ no substance.
Personally, I'm somewhat offended by the remarks of city leaders. We get it, hell we even agree - downtown needs development. But stop trying to tell me this is the greatest thing since sliced bread when there are NO DETAILS in the public domain.
Is it still a good deal if the 250 rooms don't provide the necessary tax revenue to fund the project?
Is it still a good deal if the city-owned garage loses $1Million/year?
Is it still a good deal if the lease agreement and revenue splits vastly favor the developer and puts the city at financial risk?
I have no idea what the answer to any of the above questions are but neither do any of the city's cheerleaders. I would caution everyone to be somewhat skeptical until those details are available.
Surely it's fine and dandy to support the IDEA of Harrison Square but to blindly support the project w/o understanding it's overall impact to the city is an abdication of responsibility -especially for elected officials...
I'm a little late here, but I just wanted to answer Jeff's questions:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes, though part one of your question being true doesn't mean part two will be.
