Local Response To Kelty Letter

Letters to the editor

From the piece:

"Kelty offers negativity, not vision

I knew that it was just a matter of time before Matt Kelty would use Harrison Square as a wedge issue in his quest to be elected mayor. However, I do give him credit, because this is playing smart politics. Kelty has never held elected office, so it is easy for him to simply be against everything, and this is not a new role for him. He was against the revitalization of Southtown Centre, against the expansion of the Grand Wayne Convention Center and against the possibility of even studying government consolidation.

Now he is against meaningful downtown development.

It is easy to imagine that in the past, Kelty would have likely been the candidate against the 2000 War Memorial Coliseum expansion. He would surely have been against building the existing 100 percent publicly financed Memorial Baseball stadium, which he now champions. Had Kelty run for mayor a century ago, he probably would have stood proudly against construction of the Lincoln Tower, where he now resides, because it was considered an extremely bold project at the time.

If you read Kelty’s Feb. 1 letter and visit his Web site, it does not take long to realize that Kelty’s campaign is built mostly on platitudes, slogans and strangely ambiguous goals. (He wants a feature in The Wall Street Journal, which sounds nice, but where is the substance?)

There are no substantial ideas in Kelty’s letter, unless you count his idea for downtown development, which appears to be the construction of a new hardware store.

If he is going to attack Mayor Graham Richard for showing leadership, he should come up with a bold idea of his own to offer.

Dave Maylan"

What do you think of Mr. Maylan's analysis?

What "analysis" are you referring to? The only "analysis" I see is of Mr. Kelty's website and the writer is clearly wrong. Compared to Nelson Peter's website, Mr. Kelty provides an abundance of proposals, positions, specifics and details.

I agree with what is said above. There needs to be more solid evidence to support Nelson Peter's web site; otherwise, Kelty gets a head's up.

It is not an analysis at all...

Actually, this sounds like somebody who is mad because Mr Kelty's arguments and ideas are stronger than those currently being proposed.

Whoever this guy is I think he's operating under an assumed name. I've checked and cannot find a single Maylan anywhere in the city of Fort Wayne. It's probably one of Nelson Peters' cronies.

The guy is full of it.
