Good headline.
Why is that headline good?
Belmont has had a Downtown location since 1933 and the City came in and used Eminent Domain to steal their land and store...
What is good about that?
It would have been much better had they purchased the land back then like they did for the other land owners this year.
It is an end to a shameful Fort Wayne story...
Mike Sylvester
I hate to see it go, since its been around so long. Its become sort of a Fort Wayne landmark, its historic. I have a relative that works there at their downtown location, and I know hes not so happy about it either.
Wow Mike. I said the headline was good, as in clever writing.
The pun was good, but I'm with my fellow libertarian about everything else.
The eminent domain abuse in Downtown Fort Wayne has been rampant. Belmont Liquours is just the latest category in a lot of shameful gamesmanship over the last decade.
Brian:
I just HATE what was done to Belmont by the City of Fort Wayne with tax payer dollars...
Here is a questions for you Brian:
If you owned Belmont Beverages how would you feel?
Mike Sylvester
I regularly visit that Belmont Beverage and I can tell you for certain that I will never encourage anyone to stay at the hotel that takes over their location.
I can't imagine anyone defending the government taking one person's business and gifting it to another business. I can think of no other description for such a practice than anti-American.
This abuse of government power will ALWAYS be black mark on the Richard administration...
Mike: I'd feel rich.
