I think age is a factor...
I think that older people are skeptical about the project because they have seen past failures in Fort Wayne.
I think young people are more willing to take a chance.
Mike Sylvester
Mike,
This community has as many failures relating to NOT doing things as it does for doing things!

I think Mike and Sam are both correct on this point. Older people are skeptical because they tend to focus perceived failures. Ultimately, they can't evaluate the project objectively. It's hard to see the immediate effects of complacecy as Sam notes; but it is certainly real.
Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out how terribly wrong Tom Smith is about the younger generation. “Most younger people don’t have families. A key difference is older people want more than just a baseball stadium. They want other activities year-round,” Smith said. He's just pandering, and he's doing it well.
For the record, there were three of us from YLNI that Co-chaired the forum. Luke, Heather and I each have children.
Did Smith really say "most younger people dont have families."?? OK. Break it to me easy people. I am 39 am I officially not a younger person any more? That hurts but I am accepting it.
I think people like Tim Pape, Tom Didier and myself view this issue differently because we have young kids at home and we desperately want Fort Wayne to move beyond the status quo mentality so our kids have opportunities here.
Councilman Schmidt, Smith and Shoaff do not have young families and, to my knowledge, they do not have any children that have chosen to come back to Indiana let alone Fort Wayne.
This is a micro example of the huge generational gulf that exist on this issue.
