Poll Press

Mayor hopeful stirs buzz with Harrison Square poll
http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortwayne/news/local/17037847.htm

From the article:

"The poll – conducted by Zogby International – was based on phone interviews between March 27 and March 29 with 401 likely Fort Wayne voters. Kelty said his campaign did not commission the poll and he declined to reveal who ordered and financed the effort"

"Two of the poll questions were released by Kelty, who said it contained other questions that didn’t involve Harrison Square."

"When asked about the poll, a visibly frustrated Mayor Graham Richard said the poll was naturally biased, as it only included people with home phones. He said many young people only use cell phones. He also said he sees a lot of energy and support for downtown development and believed polls can be done to justify any action."

"“I’m not a believer that you lead by poll,” Richard said."

"Peters said he was concerned with the fact Kelty wouldn’t release who commissioned the poll.
“If you won’t do that, you’ve got to question the poll in and of itself,” he said."

Poll shows opposition to Harrison Square project
But only likely voters in GOP primary election were quizzed.

From the article:

"Kelty said local businesspeople funded the poll and provided him the results. Kelty also said he had no prior knowledge of the poll"

"“The one thing Kelty’s poll shows is opposition has dropped significantly since the newspaper poll was published,” Talarico said."

"Kelty released the results of the poll at a news conference Thursday without mentioning how many people were interviewed, or that they included only likely voters in the Republican primary in May. He later released a corrected statement upon speaking with The News-Sentinel."

This may be off base, but no more off base than Matt Kelty's bogus press release.

If you take the Zogby percentages and apply them more normal demographics:

Republican 49%
Democrat 41%
Independents 10%

(I did not include libertarians because it appears that Zogby called both Enders and Sylvester so they are all accounted for)

If you apply the above percentage then it results in approximately the following:

Oppose 47.5%
Support 37.5%
Not Sure 15.0%

For what its worth.

Ed,

Not sure it all holds up scientifically but it appears every bit as reliable as Kelty's poll.
