"A downtown eatery with a familiar name and location has reopened.

The Thirsty Camel, 120 W. Washington Blvd., quietly opened Friday. The restaurant-bar is run by the Salamone family: Jeff and his wife, Barbara; their children Jeff, Jenna and Mary; and the elder Jeff's brother, Frank.

Jeff Salamone described the establishment as “an old-fashioned tavern with the ambience of a high-class nightclub.”

They initially plan to serve snacks and sandwiches along with beer, wine and mixed drinks. In a couple of weeks Salamone hopes to have jazz music in the early evenings to attract the after-work crowd. The restaurant also has a dance floor."

"The Thirsty Camel has risen again, although this time around, the owners of the downtown Fort Wayne bar and restaurant have a very different plan for the operation.

Jeff and Barb Salamone, their children, Jeff, Jenna and Mary, and the elder Jeff Salamone’s brother, Frank Salamone, quietly opened the restaurant at 120 W. Washington Blvd. Sept. 14. Hours currently are: 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday."

"The Camel has a three-way liquor license that allows it to serve beer, wine and mixed drinks and also offer carry-out. The menu is mostly appetizers, with sandwiches, burgers and pastas expected to be added as business develops and customer preferences become clearer."
