Address Of Renewal

Downtown ballpark address will stir nostalgia for some
Link (JG)

"You could get into a cab in Chicago and ask to go to 1060 W. Addison, and maybe if the cabdriver was a Blues Brothers, fan he’d know just where you want to go. But most people would ask for Wrigley Field.

Harrison Square will be one of those places. It will be known by everyone as the baseball stadium downtown once it opens in 2009. But its address will be 301 W. Jefferson Blvd.

That address will be nostalgic to some people. What was then called Fred Myers Piano Co. opened at that address decades ago. So it is nostalgic for them.

It was also the address of a Subway sandwich shop until a few days ago. Then, the wrecking ball hit the place, and now it’s a dark shell waiting to be completely plowed out of existence.

Whether the baseball stadium’s address will evoke the same nostalgia for employees or even the owner is questionable.

As the future unfolds, though, you can rest assured that the address, nostalgic for some, will fade into obscurity and be all but forgotten, at least for as long as the stadium stands."
