Scott - Is that concrete they are pouring? I thought that "the concrete horror", Memorial Stadium, would not be replaced? Was I wrong about this also?
My civil engineering friends tell me that pouring concrete at close to zero degrees fairenheit can lead to pre-mature failure of resultant structures - but, by your thinking, it only has to last about 12 or 13 years and it will need to be replaced anyway, so who cares. John B. Kalb
Hearing it from you John I would have thought Hardball would be using the very backs of the taxpayers themselves as the foundation for their colossal boondoggle
With the field being subterranean, it seems that the walls need to act as retaining walls as well as outfield walls so they are probably concrete for strength.
The walls also need to be waterproof to keep out the underground river that flows through the Harrison Square site. I am wondering if they can get by without any watering system for a field designed to be located under the ground water line? They could just turn off the two 50 HP pumps to water the grass! John B. Notice the tarps over the concrete in the picture. You probably didn't tell your friends about those. If you pour concrete in the winter, it needs to be protected from ice forming on it. Hence placing the tarps over it. The concrete in winter is not bad, it just takes longer to harden.
