Fans would use church lots

  • Asserts that church parking lots would be used for Wizards games and that downtown churches would 'surely' suffer

"If the proposed Harrison Square stadium becomes a reality, the downtown houses of faith will surely suffer."
Give me a break. Churches surely will suffer? What is the basis of this argument?
What if a movie theater, water park, or aquarium were offering millions of dollars to build downtown? Would all of those destroy churches as well? Based on this argument, any downtown investment would bring down our churches.
It seems that if you have a vested interest in downtown churches, you should have a vested interest in the future growth of that area.

How many Wizards games are played on Sunday mornings, anyway? I think it would be a good use of parking lots that are otherwise great big islands of (mostly vacant) concrete the rest of the weekend and in the evenings.

I agree. Who knows, if the lot is not being used by the church maybe they could charge a dollar or two for event parking and raise funds for church events such as youth group trips.

The last time I went to a Colts game I parked in a church parking lot. The church allowed a group of Boy Scouts to collect $10 per vehicle and keep the money. What a great idea.
