From the newspaper:
"City Councilman Don Schmidt, R-2nd, made his concerns about the project clear when he passed out information questioning the need for a new baseball stadium. In the information, he asked why other developers weren’t allowed to offer proposals for a project in downtown other than a stadium. "
Curious to see what was handed out by Councilman Schmidt? Click the picture below to see all 5 pages!
Besides what Councilman Schmidt handed out, we also found a couple of torn up pieces of paper about Harrison Square that you can see below (click 'em to make 'em bigger):
I do not know who wrote this. Did anyone that attended the event receive a copy or know who created/provided the document?

After reading this from Councilmen Schmidt I have only one thing to say... vote for Karen!
These ripped up papers are the dumbest thing I have ever read. Not only are they ignorant, but they are cynical and irrational. They were obviously designed to make this project seem like some conspiracy when really all that the city leaders are trying to do is make Fort Wayne a better place to live. No wonder they were ripped up! They need to go back in the trash where they belong!
You should see how many pieces the other copy I found was in. I'm no expert in puzzles.
If someone feels strongly enough to hand this out at the meeting, why isn't their name on the document?
My favorite on these sheets is Part J: "one of the best venues in the league"? Let's state the facts: The MWL is a 14 team league. The stadiums in the MWL that are better than ours include:
1. Dayton
2. Lansing
3. Midland (new in 2007)
4. W. Michigan (Grand Rapids)
5. Kane County (Geneva, IL)
6. Peoria
7. Cedar Rapids
8. Quad Cities
9. Appleton
Yet another piece of misinformation on the Harrison Square Project!
You guys are funny! Ever thought about a career as private detectives? ;-)
Just pickin' up where the old media left off :)
One thing I agree with you about on this topic:
Anyone who put out the information SHOULD put their name on it...
I agree 100%...
Don Schmidt on the other hand does ask some relevant questions...

I personally like the part where they question why people in Atlanta care about developing our city...I'm just glad they do care because apparently no one in Fort Wayne was willing to step up! They make it seem like Hardball Capital is going to invest almost $20 million into Ft. Wayne for a fun experiment. I guarantee they are not just throwing around that much money to make a test rat out of Ft. Wayne. Why is it so hard to think that people are taking a genuine interest in helping our city?
Barry's group is rebuilding Atlanta. Hopefully they are starting with FW.

I am in full favor of Karen Goldner. Karen is very sharp and is passionate about the City of Fort Wayne.
Karen understands economic development.
I encourage anyone who wants to see positive change to oust Councilmen Schmidt in the next election - he represents an obsolete mode of thought that will provide nothing for this city at a time when we need leadership.
whens the time this guy has been to the coliseum, isnt parking there now $4?
Also, this parking arguement does not hold any water. If there really isnt any parking downtown, then the parking garages should be full, thus making a profit. Also, parking garages are free nights and weekends.
It's time to say goodbye to Don Schmidt. Karen Goldner is more than qualified to be on city council. Vote for Karen Goldner!
It's very obvious that those are the ramblings of Credo, A.K.A. Jacki Dowdell. You can see some of the same crap on her Blog.
Wow - great web site! Kudos for finding and posting these comments on the web. After reading Councilmen Schmidt's comments it is evident to me that he lacks a realistic & progressive vision for downtown Fort Wayne. If Fort Wayne is to position itself in a global economy and attract the "visionaries" to our community, we must welcome change !

Very disappointing to read Councilman Schmidt's comments.
Remember we all have a voice & choice for the Harrison Square Project and the upcoming election.
In the next election, I know I will be voting for PROGRESSIVE, FORWARD-THINKING individuals to lead Fort Wayne.
