Good Practice

This picture from Baltimore's Oriole Park at Camden Yards will be the first in a series of pictures from our major league travels. The aim is to showcase great design features that can be learned from or adapted for use in the Harrison Square project.

The picture was chosen to show how a ballpark can be integrated into the streetscape of a surrounding area. The ballpark's fence is open and inviting, letting passersby see a glimpse into the excitement instead of shutting them out and having the ballpark be an exclusive amenity. The strong tree presence makes for a pleasant walking experience and makes the corridor feel more like being in a park than being in the middle of an urban environment.

The integration of the ballpark into the built environment provides a sense of cohesion with its surroundings and encourages the idea of the ballpark being accessible and inviting, as opposed to simply being a stand-alone destination.
