Back To Broadway

The Historic Preservation Commission met to discuss designation of the 1000 block of Broadway that would include the buildings at the addresses of 1006, 1010, and 1014-1016 (one legal property).

The Commission unanimously approved the petition by Scott and Hallie Greider and William and Linda Lupkin. The matter will now go to City Council where they will vote on whether or not to establish the properties as a part of a local historic district.

The block recently went before the City Council and historic designation was turned down at that time. The vote tied 4 to 4, with Councilman John Crawford not present for the vote. Before the previous vote, Councilman Hayhurst had previously supported the designation, but changed his mind at the time of vote. If all else stays the same, Councilman Crawford would essentially cast the deciding vote.

This latest petition does not include the "Broadway House", located at 1018 Broadway, leaving only the arguably more historic buildings to the north to be on the docket for consideration.
