"Metropolitan Fort Wayne" Followup

Will a New Clarion Hotel in Fort Wayne Prompt a Glut of Downtown Hotels?

"Is there ever a downside to new investment in a city's downtown?

It's a question that has to be asked following word that Fort Wayne's downtown Holiday Inn will be revitalized."

"Reports suggest the new Harrison Square baseball stadium development that includes a Courtyard by Marriott Hotel made the Holiday Inn property more attractive."

"Deputy Director of city development Greg Leatherman said Monday, the Clarion investment is a good thing for downtown, that there should be enough business to support all downtown hotels and that the Grand Wayne Center will get a percentage of money from each hotel room rental no matter which hotel flourishes."

Of course Leatherman fails to mention that the GWC will also be handing out $5 Million to the Courtyard.

Is he willing to claim that this hotel will see 65% occupancy as well?

Saying there will be a glut is being pretty pessimistic. We have a Metro Area population of over 400,000 yet still only 3 downtown hotels (after Courtyard is built)! We just need more "stuff" downtown! I think there's room for all 3 to be successful. But thank God Clarion plans to paint the outside of that hotel. Anyone else getting sick of that ugly peach color?

It would be nice if it had a whole new facade.

I think most were sick of that paint scheme before it dried.
