Just watched the council meeting on public cable channel. It was painful to watch some of the council members in opposition to H.S. I had the filling they were tossing out anything they could to see if it would stick to put a stop to this project. I.E. John Shoaff and Tom Smith. When it comes time for vote on their River North project. Will they expect the same road blocks to be thrown in their direction? If H.S.works it could be a model to push River North and other future projects to reality.
Are these guys really for downtown development?

Yeah...I totally agree. The famous three (Shoaff, Smith, Schmidt) were constantly throwing in comments to delay the vote, to wait until a certain date, to stop the postpone tonights meeting etc etc.

Next week is definitely huge, although, I am truly not thrilled about a hearing. How many hearings and forums have there been? I understand the reasoning behind it and am not opposed to the idea, but I just feel like it is a waste of time. Most likely, the councilmen have made up there mind, and the arguments that are going to be put forth will be the same ones we have heard 49 times. Nevertheless, it is a big day Tuesday and wish I would be able to make it.

Shoaff sounded like the angry callers on the Pat White Show on WOWO. Most of them appear to have not bothered to look at any of the details of the project. I sure hope as an elected member of our city Shoaff has done his homework on H.S. Most of his questions have being available for many weeks and months. I would not want to be one of the councilmen to vote to kill this well plane project to revitalize our downtown. The experts that put this dill together appeared to have left no stone uncovered to get the best deal for our city.

Shoaff has researched the heck out of this project, but there are aspects of it that he just doesnt seem to get (or that just do not register with him) He is still talking about "player salaries" as if this is a compenent that should even be on the radar. Minor league player salaries and whether or not the money stays in fort wayne is meaningless!! We are not talking about A-Rod's $25 million a year! He just doesnt get it. He said at the meeting that he would like several months to review the two new documents. Are you kidding me? Councilman Pape brought up a great point in the paper this morning. Dont let the 3 Opponents try to kill the deal by making their changes to the documents.

Anyone else notice Don Schmidt trying to pre-maturely call the meeting to a close around 9:oo p ? My guess is he was trying to wrap things up so he could get home and watch Dancing with the Stars.

Good (and funny) observation about the clock and the paneling, Scott! The CC building was built in the late 60s and looks much the same today as it did then. If we wait just a little while longer, that "decor" will all be back in style and we won't have to spend any taxpayer money on redecorating! Even this simple item you pointed out Scott, says a lot about the midset in Fort Wayne. Sad but true.
